Social Media can make you more selfish as you kinda forget to, or, don’t have time for, checking in on your loved ones ..

No More YouTube No More TikTok- No More FB..

Thinking of others

Day 23

So far so good – I’m certainly getting into this now – I haven’t had any ‘cravings’ in the last few days to go on social media.

Out of all the 23 days of ‘giving up’ – this is the easiest section so far

I’ve been working very hard at work – long hours at my usual job.

Then I’ve been looking after my elderly father – he is good shape but his wife has died and he is lonely and down….

I went round to see him after work one night recently and noticed he was low and forgetful.

He reminded me of a wind up toy – it took him a while to get going but then once I’d been there for a while he was back to his usual speed – talking and remembering.

This did worry me a bit…. He’s 91 – He has a lot of time on his hands to think and obsess about the little difficulties of life.

So I said “let’s go out for pizza tomorrow night”

We did…

It’s was lovely – he took me to a cinema that I had no idea that existed after we’d eaten our pizza and we looked around – I can’t believe I have lived in my town where this cinema has been for 7 years – I knew nothing about it!!?!

It was beautiful inside. Huge bar and beautiful seats and a cinema with 4 screens – I can’t believe I didn’t know about it.

I mean …I don’t go out much …. Clearly ….

Anyway we sat on the luxurious chairs and spoke – he was bright and breezy and we laughed A LOT!!

I don’t laugh that much either – so it was really nice to find something really funny and laugh hard about it

He texted me and deeply appreciated the evening….and to be honest – so did I….

My dad is 45 years old than me

He has a lot of wisdom in his head – plus, of course, he’s my dad so he can talk to me straight!!

With the small worries I have in my life, he is helping me with them. I like the way he talks – it’s straight to the point – no fluffing – just says his point of view and potential advice for me to ponder over in my spare time

Maybe I’m lonely too – maybe I need this relationship as much as him – I am happy to accept that fact as it could well be true.

Social media, even though I had 27,000 followers on TikTok and 5,000 on YouTube (plus it was rising every day) I’d never felt so lonely….

So many people ‘around’ me – but no one was REALLY there….

I felt lonely – empty – void …as I made more and more videos and apparently ‘spoke’ to my followers

I’m clearly searching for something new – I’m clearly searching for something else as I’m bored to tears with having social media as my entertainment….

Scrolling sucks – it is a fake friend – it’s a serious time waster and a life drainer – it gives absolutely nothing when you REALLY think about it.

I hate it tbh – I hate how we are using it and accepting it as modern day human life. I hate the way we communicate on there too. People are so negative a lot of the time

23 days (with one blip, of course, 2 days like I said in another post)

But, yes! I’ve LIVED more of a natural human life recently, than I have in 2 to 3 years!!

I’ve seen people face to face! – Met new people – helped people – gone for coffee with people – took the time to talk to strangers that entered my life for whatever reason – climbed a mountain with people I didn’t know – booked many exercises classes and exercised with new people (when I usually hate exercise) – I’ve booked a 3 hour walk with the girls I’ve recently met climbing the mountain – spent more valuable time with my kids – Cooked with them – cleaned the house – helped my dad – thought about his health and mental health much more – taken him to the doctors – shops – hospital – seen my sister – seen my friends for films – gone for dinners at beautiful restaurants on a few different occasions – seen new places in my own town – sorted life issues that I have more easily – downloaded and read books that I am now thoroughly enjoying. Considered my future – texted my friends – made plans with far away friends I haven’t seen for ages for Xmas….

I can see my life is getting better!!!

100%

This IS the way forward. This IS the better life I want – it’s just now getting into the swing of it and making it the NORM.

I’m not blogging about this now everyday because I feel I also don’t want to be addicted to blogging – I don’t want to replace an addiction with just another daily one because

I ultimately want to be free!

So I will drop in and report my progress when I have something interesting to say about my journey
