Social Media is a Fly that buzzes around your head that needs to be swatted!

Stopping Social Media doesn’t miraculously make your problems go away but they’re certainly easier
DAY 10
Stopping social media use doesn’t miraculously make your life problems go away….
but wow, it’s easier to focus on them and ‘deal’ with them better if you stop!
I liken it to a fly that’s buzzing around your head when you are trying to talk to someone – you can still, sort of, have a conversation but it keeps on being interrupted by an annoying fly that you keep bashing away.
Your attention is not fully on your conversation- you have to share your awareness with a damn fly.
When the fly goes, or…. you get rid of it….. you feel a sense of relief that you can focus on the conversation at hand again
Your friend understood about the fly whilst trying to converse with you – but in some small way, was a little irritated as well…..
I REALLY feel this with giving up social media
Now that it’s gone and I’ve swatted it away….
I can concentrate on LIFE again!
Problems are not halved and they are certainly still there! But there is space and time to focus on the issues before me – I can think and be rational and come up with good-or even ‘great’ solutions!
My stress levels have been there (car breaking and not being able to work without a hire car springs to mind!) but the solutions have ALSO been there (which potentially and seemingly have been conjured up far faster) so my overall stress levels are definitely lower!
I do hate stress – probably a silly thing to say – but I do hate stress….. I don’t cope well in it and always want to exit as soon as humanly possible! I’m noticing that I am leaving stressful situations faster!
Giving up social media has given me the space to be able to concoct solutions to my issues with a clearer mind (almost reminiscence to my giving up alcohol in the first weeks!)
My mind is working better!
So the problems don’t go away.
This isn’t a miracle cure!
They are certainly still there but I’m coping wayyyy better!
I thought I’d be bored giving up social media – thought I’d have copious amount of time on my hands literally twiddling my fingers…
But there’s shed loads going on!!!!
There’s LOADS to focus on!
Problems, yes, of course! – But also thinking in the positive about what I WANT to do with my spare time. I’m thinking about other people more too – I’m being less selfish!
Life has its challenges that certainly fill your time!
My car is absolutely the bane of my life atm. The LED indicator UNIT is £1800 to fix apparently.
I CAN BUY A NEW CAR FOR THAT!!!!
I’m pretty focused on what the devil to do!
I’m glad social media isn’t in my life atm because I NEED the brain space to figure out a way forward here!
I thought they’d be a void – a deep silence – a ‘nothing’ without social media – but there’s flipping LOADS going on!!!!
Work – friends – kids – car troubles – sleep troubles atm – planning weekends away – planning dinner at restaurants – planning birthdays – buying beautiful thoughtful birthday cards – enjoying talking to colleagues or semistrangers at shops and things. Walking – exercise – boxing – blogging! Hey! 👋. Cleaning my house and other housework – friends – family – partner – talking face to face with people! Coffee dates – money issues or money flow – bills – WhatsApp chats with REAL friends checking in on me about my ‘real’ life issues – kids and their worry’s – their homework – keeping them alive with food and correct school gear so the teachers don’t give them detentions. Seeing friends for dinner…..
There’s loads to be getting on with!!!! My life is busy enough!!!!!
How did I have TIME for social media?! Where did I find the Time to waste!? There’s so much to do and think of! Flipping plenty! I apparently spent 6-7 hours a day on social media??????!!!!!!! My stats on my phone told me so!
What???!
I’ve honestly questioned myself recently, “why did I even use social media?”
Honestly it’s a serious question!
Why!?! Why did i actually use it?….
It was crap! I mean it really was a poor effort for dopamine and connection…..
What made me do it for 6-7 hours a day? And where the devil did I find that amount of Time?!
What was the ‘pull’ towards it?
Was it really just like a toxic relationship? When you step back and finally look at it, you think…
“This is shit!….this is totally shit! What am I doing? There’s literally nothing here for me!”
NOTHING!!
Just a fake mask – a lie of chaotic noise and lies and fake crap – a sickly sweet, over kill effort to ‘seem’ fabulous. The sporadic powerful orgasmic dopamine hits before a lengthy time in literal Hell to pay for them – there’s absolutely NOTHING there when you ‘actually’ look – it’s just a turd cover in a VERY VERY THIN layer of crappy, very very crappy chocolate.. that sadly you need to pass to some other poor sucker…. But it’s the only way out…
It’s always there – ALWAYS – it’s always there saying “IM HERE WHENEVER YOU WANT, ILL DROP EVERYTHING FOR YOU” but that’s when you have to choose YOURSELF. Everyday it’s on offer, always on offer – and you know that every moment, but EVERYDAY YOU CHOOSE TO REJECT IT – for the rest of your life! Because you are the prize – YOU are more important!
…..When you step back and actually look……
Social Media is also just utter CRAP! Noise – just noise – humans fighting for your attention that talk to you SO LOUDLY and CONSTANTLY….they never ever shut up
I mean it never E V E R – ever – E V E R stops…
It’s like getting on to a treadmill that’s already going FULL speed – you have to jump on to it with NO warm up at all – then you’re sprinting and sweating buckets – people are shouting “look at me – listen to me, I’m the professional” or they’re having a go, saying you’re the worse human to have existed or they are complementing you saying without you they couldn’t have ever ‘done it’
And when you’ve finally had enough of this crazy thing, you can’t just step off carefully, no, you have to fling yourself at the sofa and crash onto it to get off! leaving it running at full pelt until you go on it later in the exact same way!
I’m amazed to say that 10 days in I’m not forcing the question “why didn’t even use it anyway?”
I’m not trying to show off by asking this question – I’m not boasting – I’m not trying to come across as ‘little miss perfect’
I just genuinely am asking myself at day 10 off social media ‘WHY’ I used it?!?
Was I bored? – was I addicted? – was it just a horrible habit? – was I lazy? – was I nosey? Did I need an ego boost? – was I egotistical!? did I need to feel self value? was I showing off?
Maybe I was all these things because… I’ve written them…..?
When I first stopped. Ie day 1, 10 days ago – I keep worrying what I’d do with all the spare time I have……. How would I fill the void?!!
There HASNT BEEN A VOID!!!
There’s so much going on in my life that I can’t see where I could fit 6-7 hours of scrolling and making videos?!!
I’m already seeing a huge positive difference and if you can see something is ‘better’ for you or you ‘enjoy’ the new way of living –
THATS WHEN IT STICKS…..
